You have only ever seen 59% of the Moon
You have only ever seen 59% of the Moon. The Moon spins once in 27.3 days and orbits the Earth once in 27.3 days, so the same side always faces us. A slight rock called libration uncovers a bit more every month. Add it all up and 59% of the surface is visible from Earth. The other 41% never faces us. Idea and structure from Mark Rober's Short "Why the Moon Never Changes". Sources - 27.3 days for both spin and orbit: NASA Moon Fact Sheet, sidereal rotation period 655.720 hours (27.3 days), revolution period 27.3217 days. https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/moonfact.html - Synchronou
